Putting the DNA together #2: everything we know about JW2

It's been almost six months since we carefully mined the web for clues about JW2. A lot of new information has surfaced since then, so we thought we'd give you guys an update. Hold on to your butts!

The cast

So far only Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas-Howard have been confirmed to reprise their roles. Ty Simkins, Nick Robinson and B.D. Wong have not.

Control room operator Jake Johnson/Lowery Cruthers will most likely not return for the sequel. When asked by a fan if his character would return, Johson had this to say:

Though it would be amazing to have on of the original cast members appear in JW2, as of right now nothing indicates that they will. In a recent interview with Yahoo! Movies, however, Sam Neill/Alan Grant said that he doesn't know where Grant is, stating that he might have died or have a new career. Is he tired of being asked or is he playing coy? Time will tell.

In a more material cast development: an open casting call is being conducted in the United States and the United Kingdom for the role of "Lucy". She is a young girl around 9 years of age. Given the fact that she has to handle "long and complex scenes", she might be a major character.

The plot

The working title for Jurassic World 2 is Ancient Futures. Please not that working titles are placeholders 99 percent of the time and they usually don't reflect the plot at all. The working title for Jurassic World, for example, was Ebb Tide.

Without getting too carried away: the title certainly has a mysterious vibe to it and it also implies a link between the past (dinosaurs) and the future (technology). We know that JP writers have been obsessed with weaponized dinosaurs for a long time, so dino soldiers could possibly be a route the movie takes. Keep in mind, however, that J.A. Bayona told Jurassic Outpost that him and Trevorrow aren't focusing on weaponized dinosaurs.

Bayona in that same interview let it be known that JW2 will be darker, mentioning that The Empire Strikes Back and The Wrath of Khan, both the scond part of a trilogy, were scarier and darker than their predecessors.

In a separate interview with IGN, Bayona revealed that JW2 will be a more complex movie, exploring the mistreatment of dinosaurs.

Timing and release

Jurassic World 2 is said to start production in both Hawaii and London in February 2017. The movie is still supposed to drop on June 22, 2018.
